FUNCTIONAL METAL ART FOR YOUR HOME, GARDEN & BUSINESS

we design... you design... we restore... we repair... we do fancy... we do plain... we build... we make alterations... from individuals to big business... if it's metal... we do it!

Welcome to Concept Steel, a design and fabrication studio situated on the outskirts of Christchurch, run by craftsman precision fabricator Guy Johnson-City & Guilds-Welding & Fabrication and designer Catherine Johnson-BEd.(Hons) Design & Technology. There is a passion to produce work of the highest quality, use only the best materials (no furniture graded steel-unless specified), to create innovative, original metal art functional items based upon influential design movements of the twentieth century; Art Nouveau, Art Deco Bauhaus, and Mackintosh.

Superior quality commissioned metal products with a professional design service. Ownership of designs transfer to client ensuring a genuine, unique, original piece of functional metal art which cannot be reproduced. If client gives permission for design to be retained by concept steel the design service is free.

A comprehensive portfolio is offered; from smaller items, clocks, mirrors, garden art & sculptures, larger items, furniture, beds, tables, shelving, garden seating and structures, through to elaborate gates, railings, balustrades, fire guards, and specialist mechanical water features. All have the beautiful lines of these major design influences which are the foundations of today's lifestyles. Your imagination and desire, combined with our listening, skill and dedication to detail, will ensure your 'ideas in steel are made real'.

ABOUT US

We came to New Zealand in mid 2004 with three suitcases, an 18 month old daughter Cate, and a desire to live a better life. We left England, the stress, the grime and the unrewarding lifestyle, to achieve our dreams. Guy has a talent for reproducing-with amazing accuracy-any drawing into a finished beautiful object. Catherine taught Design for ten years and has extensive knowledge of past & present design styles. We moved to a 100 year old villa in 2005 to set up our dreams-a fabrication business from home, room for a workshop, horses to train and space for our new Kiwi's-Alice and Lucy.

OTHER PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

We also produce a wide range of metal products for the agricultural and equestrian industries, a shop fitting service, and a restoration service.
